Venerable Dhammadipa

Teachings
Today after the morning ceremony Venerable Dhammadipa bid farewell to the Phat Hue Sangha.
Ven. Dhammadipa’s stay of 3 weeks in Pagoda Phat Hue in Frankfurt was nothing short of inspirational. The Sangha was led in a series of intensive classes on the Abhidhamma by the scholar and meditation master from Pa Auk Forest Monastery in Burma. The workings of mind, karma, and nirvana were explained in the intricate web of conditional arisings and cessations based on the ancient Buddhist system of experiential understanding.
Ven. Dhammadipa stressed the importance of using one’s own intellect in the study and practice of Dhamma. The Venerable has studied extensively in Burma, which still holds the only living tradition of Abhidhamma. Over the centuries, most other traditions have lost the Abhidhamma as a living practice and instead carry it only as an academic discipline.
The Venerable will now return to his native Czech Republic for a month of teachings before setting off for his next trip. In November he is planning to arrive at Chuan Yen Monastery in New York where he will teach with his friend, the esteemed scholar and translator Venerable Bhikkhu Bodhi. After a short teaching tour in America, the Venerable will then return to China for an undetermined amount of time.
The young Sangha of Pagoda Phat Hue is deeply thankful for all time we spent with such a warm hearted and highly experienced teacher. We wish the Venerable Dhammadipa much happiness and good health on his journey and look forward to seeing him again for a second teaching in 2010.
