Feb. 13-14: Vietnamese New Year’s Eve and New Year
Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010
Come celebrate with us the year of the tiger. You can expect a diverse program of traditional Vietnamese and Buddhist ceremonies and traditional celebrations around the Vietnamese New Year.
At noon, Buddhist refuge in the Buddha, Dharma and Sangha will be given. All interested parties should please contact info@phathue.de. In the afternoon, a purification ceremony, complete with prostrations, will be offered. The motivation is to purify our mind and mood for the new year. The evening, until midnight, will be marked by colorful, exciting and humorous stage performances managed by the Sangha, the community and all friends of the Pagoda.
Shortly before midnight, all will gather in the Buddha Hall. Colorful, wild dragons will dance through the crowd and announce the forthcoming year. At midnight, the Vietnamese New Year will be taken in with fireworks in front of the bamboo in the Zen Garden. Then, all those present will receive a New Year’s gift and a Buddhist blessing, if they so choose.
Sunday, Feb. 14, 2010
A recitation ceremony will be held on New Year’s Day for the Vietnamese community, a recitation ceremony in the Buddha Hall, in which all interested parties and friends of the Pagoda can participate. The same goes for the traditional ceremony honoring the dead, which will follow.
